Valle d’Aosta
The Smallest Region with the Highest Peaks
Valle d’Aosta is Italy’s smallest region, located in the northwest near the border with France and Switzerland. The region is home to some of the highest peaks in the Alps, including Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Valle d’Aosta is a popular destination for skiing, hiking, and mountaineering. The region’s capital, Aosta, is known for its Roman ruins and medieval castles. Valle d’Aosta’s cuisine reflects its Alpine setting, with dishes like fondue, polenta, and carbonade (beef stew).
