Abruzzo
Where Mountains Meet the Sea
Abruzzo is a region of dramatic contrasts, with the Apennine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. The region is known for its national parks, including the Gran Sasso and Majella, which are home to wildlife such as wolves and bears. Abruzzo’s medieval towns, including L’Aquila and Sulmona, are steeped in history. The region is also known for its food and wine, with specialties like arrosticini (grilled lamb skewers), saffron from L’Aquila, and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine.
