Nature and Culture
Situated in Invercargill, the Southland Museum and Art Gallery offers insights into the region’s natural and cultural history. Known for its pyramid-shaped building, it features exhibits on Southland’s unique ecosystems, Māori heritage, and early European settlers. A highlight is the live tuatara exhibit, home to one of the oldest living species on Earth. The museum is temporarily closed for redevelopment, with exciting plans for the future.
