The Gherkin
A Modern Icon of London’s Skyline: Innovation, Architecture, and Views
The Gherkin, officially known as 30 St Mary Axe, is one of London’s most recognizable skyscrapers and a symbol of the city’s modern architectural spirit. Designed by the renowned architect Norman Foster and completed in 2003, its unique, curving glass and steel structure stands out amidst the historic buildings of London’s financial district. The building earned its nickname due to its distinct, rounded shape, resembling a gherkin (pickle) and capturing the imagination of Londoners and tourists alike.
