Tungurif - Golden Beach

Solitary Sands and Seabird Cliffs of the Remote Westfjords

Tungurif is a stunning, hidden section of golden-sand beach located just west of Rauðisandur in Iceland’s southern Westfjords. Framed by dramatic cliffs and set beneath the ever-changing skies of the region, Tungurif offers a peaceful and lesser-known coastal experience. The golden tones of the sand shift with the light and tide, giving this area the nickname “Golden Beach.” It’s a perfect place for quiet exploration, birdwatching, or simply walking for miles in near-total solitude. Puffins, arctic terns, and other seabirds nest nearby during summer months. Though accessible by rough gravel roads, the journey is part of the adventure, and those who make the effort are rewarded with untouched nature and postcard-worthy views. Bring a camera, sturdy shoes, and a deep breath — this is Iceland at its wildest and most meditative.
