Dynjandi
The Thunderous Crown Jewel of the Westfjords
Dynjandi, meaning “the thunderous one,” is a majestic waterfall in the heart of Iceland’s remote Westfjords. With a total height of 100 meters, its uppermost tier fans out dramatically over a broad cliff, resembling a bridal veil cascading down the mountainside. Below it, a series of six smaller waterfalls — each with their own name — create a stepwise descent toward the fjord, making the hike to the base both scenic and rewarding. A well-maintained trail leads visitors close to the falls, offering multiple viewpoints and incredible photo opportunities. The sound of the water, the pristine air, and the sweeping views of Arnarfjörður make Dynjandi one of the most memorable stops in the region. Despite its remote location, it’s a must-visit for anyone touring the Westfjords.
