Jökulsárlón
Iceland’s Floating Iceberg Glacier Lagoon
Jökulsárlón is a breathtaking glacial lagoon located at the edge of Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. The lagoon is filled with luminous blue and white icebergs that have broken off from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier tongue and drift slowly toward the sea. As the ice melts, the lagoon continues to grow — a visual testament to Iceland’s rapidly changing climate. Visitors can admire the ever-shifting icebergs from the shore or take a boat tour to get up close to the floating ice. Seals are often seen lounging on the bergs or swimming in the icy waters. Connected to the Atlantic Ocean via a short river, Jökulsárlón is one of the few places in the world where you can witness this dynamic interaction between glacier and sea. It’s a surreal, cinematic location that encapsulates the raw beauty and fragility of Iceland’s landscape.
